
Melvin M. Worms, age 92 of Melrose, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Aug. 29 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
Melvin Mathew Worms was born June 21, 1923, in Spring Hill Township, Stearns County, Minnesota, to Lambert and Agnes (Ellering)
Worms. He attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Melrose High School in 1941. On Oct. 8, 1951, he married Edna Wenker at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Greenwald. Melvin was a hard-working dedicated farmer who spent his entire life working on their third generation century farm in Spring Hill Township.
He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, St. Joseph’s Men’s Society in Greenwald, and the Knights of Columbus Council #1633. Throughout his life, Melvin enjoyed deer hunting, bowling, ice fishing and playing cards, especially Solo. Melvin was a fan of the professional Minnesota sports teams including the Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves, and occasionally watched the Minnesota Wild, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Edna Worms of Melrose; children, Donald
(Marina) Worms of Hercules, Calif., Harvey (Janet) Worms of Eden Prairie, Diane Worms of Farmington, Joann (Russ) Olson of Breckenridge, Rosie (Tim) Beier of Paynesville, Lisa (Dave) Sarne of Eagan, and Jon (Laurie) Worms of Greenwald; 15 grandchildren, Nathalia (Daniel), Philip (Natalia), Sarah, Matthew, Mariah, Chad, Eric, Chris (Annie), Emily, Stephanie, Tony, Jessie, Michaela, Madison and Carter; and two great-grandchildren, Naya and Mateo; and brother, Ray Worms of Melrose.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herbert,
Luverne, and Leonard
Worms; and sisters,
Lorraine Imdieke and Bernice Athmann.
Serving as casket bearers were Philip Worms, Matthew Worms, Chad Olson, Eric Olson, Chris Beier and Tony Sarne. Cross bearer was Madison Worms and scripture bearer was Jessie Sarne.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Melrose.
